Years ago there was a strong culture of fear, and a huge disconnect with how to make money in the store. For example; I had a deal with a local movie theater during the opening weekend of "The Hobbit" years ago to set up in their lobby with a huge display table, and demo board to recruit customers, as GW had a licensed "The Hobbit" game. They were projecting having 5, people pass through that weekend, where as I was consistently getting 2 demo games from the low foot traffic of my store.
I had everything all set, including community volunteers and a huge display designed to promote the hobby and drive my sales. All I needed was to get clearance for my on-call staff member to cover the store Friday and Saturday night, or even close down early for this special, one time event. I was told "No. You need to focus on running demo games in your store.

Even the most cursory research will probably paint a very mixed view of the working culture at Games Workshop. If this raises concern for you, then I can tell you right now that any pros or cons you will see stem from the company's unique business model.
The stores are, at time of writing, mostly one-man shows. The other significant aspect of the business model is the company's vision of the stores as "hobby centers. All of this alters the usual perspectives on work environment and management. You essentially have no coworkers, but you will see core groups of regulars on a weekly basis, so learning to "work" with them becomes a must since ideally, you want them to be customers on a regular basis as well.
Also, as mentioned, you are the management--at the local level. There is literally no one looking over your shoulder for months at a time.
So consider the pros and cons of that. Whether or not you can thrive in this culture will be entirely up to what you are suited for.
That being said, there are several straightforward pros and cons. See the separate fields for those. Pros Good compensation, excellent benefits , high level of autonomy. Yes There are 19 helpful reviews 19 No There are 1 unhelpful reviews 1.
In North America, the regional managers would summon the store managers to a meeting and select one at random to perform 'commissar's summary execution' on their lowest selling employee and some poor schmuck would find themselves sacked due to low sales for the month.
It's a strange bullying culture of blame and almost entirely the antithesis of modern corporate management thinking, which should be about team building and mutual support. But then the store and regional managers are a strange bunch, whilst I have no doubt there are some great ones, too many are the result of this very peculiar and almost religious love of the company some folks exhibit coupled with the furious attrition rate.
It leaves the company promoting fanatical yes men who seem to thrive on firing people and dishing out punishments as the gak cascades down from the Nottingham Reichstag. It is bad form to ask at the telephone interview as this is only a vetting stage.
However this should be covered in full by the interviewer during the interview and this is laid out in most good practice guidelines.

So they're going to follow you home, and watch you personally open, build and paint your stuff, then make sure only you use it in games?
Um, yes. His area manager wanted to go through his stuff and make sure it matched with the order forms to make sure nothing was sold on. He has been my friend for many years and I was there when he was confronted about this at work.
Their Inquisition yes, they really call themselves that has been known in the past for "virus bombing" problem stores and getting rid of all of the staff in one fell swoop. From your profile, I see that your Running a store is a big responsibility, and something you can put on your resume later.
