There's always the danger that the sheer wordyness of her writing could become a little on the heavy side, but she always manages to stay just on the right side of the line. This is a wonderful little fic set between Triangle and Dreamland.

Just read it, it's so Mulder and Scully. This Her Fever by aloysiavirgata 1 2 3 Another brilliant and popular writer, aloysiavirgata has written many amazing XF fics, but this has to be my favourite. Set during the conclusion of the cancer arc, and filling in a lot of the gaps at the end of Redux II , it encompasseses not only Mulder and Scully but all of my favourite supporting characters such as Ma Scully and The Lone Gunmen.

The way that she's crafted the Scully family's backstory is sheer mastery, and some of the visuals she's created in this story are just beautiful. Mulder and Scully go out for Italian food, and it's so perfectly written that whilst reading, you find yourself transported into the place and setting, smelling and tasting the food, seeing out of the character's eyes. It's lovely and romantic, again without being over the top. Never has a kiss outside a restaurant been written so sensually, sigh.

There are a couple of glaring grammar and syntax errors that I always itch to be able to amend, but overall it doesn't take away from the quality of the piece.

Five Things That Never Happened to Dana Scully by threeguesses Yet another amazing fic writer, I could read this author's work for the rest of my days. Never have I seen the 'Five Things' format used to such effect. In turns humourous, heartbreaking, and chilling, this is a must read for any Scully fan. Part 5 in particular makes me think, my God Shopping List by threeguesses Sexual content warning.

Another cancer arc fic, this one veering into the AU. It's just generally stunning. I adore any author than can write Scully's voice successfully, because she's a very difficult character to get right. Fathom's Five by Penumbra Ah, and we're back to Penumbra.

This fic is so completely unique that I don't want to ramble on about it for too long and spoil any surprises. It also centralises around one of my favourite plot threads brought up a couple of times in the series but never elaborated on. Read it. I know it's probably cliche to include it on an XF fanfic recommendation list because everyone and their mother has, but I just don't care.

It's my favourite XF fic ever, and I could ramble endlessly on about everything that I love about this story. But I won't. I'll just say that I've never seen the relationship between Mulder and Scully written more lyrically, more beautifully, and most important, more accurately. If I could recommend only one XF fic to everyone, it would be Parabiosis. It's long, but it's oh so worth it. Tags: fanfic , general shit , the x files.
